This week, I did something both exciting and terrifying—I gave my notice at my full-time job.
It feels surreal to say that out loud. For so long, I’ve been juggling a full-time position plus part-time jobs, staying up late into the night just to make ends meet. But the truth is, my part-time work has now grown enough that I can earn the same income without sacrificing 40+ hours a week at a desk.
That realization was both freeing and scary.
After a long talk with my husband, I explained how much I’ve missed being present with my kids. My family is my world, and yet I’ve been stretched so thin that I’ve missed too many moments that I’ll never get back. My kids are only little once, and I don’t want to look back wishing I had been there more.
Of course, it’s not without fear. Life is expensive, and the thought of giving up the “security” of a full-time paycheck is overwhelming. My husband, while supportive, shares those same worries. How are we going to do this? How will we still give our kids the life they deserve?
The answer right now is: we plan, we crunch numbers, and we cut back on the things that aren’t truly necessary. We’re working toward paying down debt, being intentional with our spending, and making choices that align with the life we want for our family.
I’m looking forward to cooking more meals at home, having the energy to actually enjoy them together, and no longer living in a fog of exhaustion. I know it won’t be easy, but I also know that choosing my family over constant burnout is the right step.
Scary? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
